Dermal fillers are injectable treatments designed to restore lost volume, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. They are made from materials like hyaluronic acid (HA), calcium hydroxylapatite, or poly-L-lactic acid, depending on the type of filler.

Those looking to address volume loss, fine lines, or enhance facial features can be a candidate. Ideal candidates are in good overall health, and have realistic expectations about the results.

Avoid taking aspirin or anti inflammatory/blood thining drugs such as Ibuprofen, Advil®, Motrin®, Nuprin®, Aleve®, Celebrex®, Fish oil, Ginko Biloba, St. John’s Wort for 1-2 weeks prior to reduce the risk of bruising/bleeding at injection sites and alcohol for 24–48 hours before treatment to reduce bruising.

Discuss any allergies, medical conditions, or medications with your provider.

  • Avoid touching or massaging the treated area for 24 hours.
  • Refrain from strenuous exercise, saunas, or hot baths for 48 hours.
  • Skip alcohol and excessive sun exposure for 24–48 hours.
  • Do not fly for a minimum of 48 hours post treatment
  • Wait a minimum of 7 days for other facial treatments

Common side effects include mild swelling, redness, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site. These usually resolve within a few days. Rare complications include lumps, asymmetry, or vascular occlusion, which can be treated by your provider.

Yes, hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
